Hemorrhoids which are also known as piles are actually swollen or inflamed veins in the anus or around it. Hemorrhoids from pregnancy are very common and occur during the third trimester and also after childbirth. Constipation is most common cause of hemorrhoids along with increasing uterus pressure resulting in swelling of pelvic veins. Changing hormone levels also increase the problem.
There are many symptoms of hemorrhoids which include- anal itching, swellings or lumps near the rectal area, painful bowel movements, anal pain while sitting and blood during passing stool. Most women may have to face hemorrhoid from pregnancy as a temporary problem and it may go away on its own in months following childbirth. Some women may have to deal with hemorrhoids during delivery which is a result of pushing down during childbirth. Sometimes the hemorrhoids stay after pregnancy and a minor surgery would be required to remove it. To deal with hemorrhoids a change in lifestyle and diet is essential. Pregnant women should try and keep constipation away by drinking enough water and going in for a fiber rich diet.
It is also essential to keep the body movement going by taking small walks or opting for some simple exercises. Hemorrhoids from pregnancy may not be totally avoidable but the symptoms may be kept to minimum by taking in some precautions. If there is severe pain and bleeding one should immediately consult a specialist who may prescribe some medications. Stools which are black or maroon in color should not be ignored as this may imply a more serious condition.
